Hachnosas Kallah is such a great mitzvah, many actively seek a poor kallah, especially an orphan, to marry off when they need blessing.

When a chosson or kallah has no funds, the pain is incredible. Every purchase is a crisis. The kallah has no money for the simplest housewares – but she must set up a home. They chosson can’t afford his share of the wedding expenses – but he absolutely must pay. The challenge is often compounded. When the chosson or kallah is an orphan, or the family is dealing with illness, unemployment or other difficulties, the realities of the upcoming wedding are crushing.
