English Translation: 3 Adar 5764 With these words, I wish to arouse the hearts of generous Jews, pursuers of tzedakah and chessed, to a great and worthy cause, Ezras Yisroel, and to ask that they contribute to the activities of two eminent askanim, Rabbi Avrohom Helfand and Rabbi Mordechai Shomo Fishman, shlita. These askanim raise tremendous sums for poor people, many of them with large families. The money is distributed to the poor on the day of Purim, so that Jews who contribute fulfill the mitzva of matanos l'evyonim properly, according to halacha. Therefore, I ask that you fulfill the mitzva of "Posei'ach tiftach es yadecha - you shall open your hands". I ask that you contribute generously, and that you have mercy and compassion on the needy, as a brother would. He who has mercy on people, will be granted mercy from the heavens - and those who give will be blessed from the source of all blessing, with children, life, and prosperity. Urging you with all my heart, Avrohom Yehoshua Heschel Bick |
